Another road trip. The Polestar 2 is racking up the miles!
Sheffield. It’s quite far from Plymouth, but don’t let that put you off! Many places are. It’s sort of the deal with living at one extreme corner of the United Kingdom. Sheffield is a vibrant city with a surprising amount of green space, and only a stones throw from the Peak District. I’m not kidding on that one. I walked into the hills from the city last year, a feat my feet did not thank me for. The city is something of a climbing Mecca with plenty of indoor and outdoor options. We managed to get out a short session one evening on Stanage Edge, a three and a half mile escarpment with myriad options for attempting to defy gravity.

Drinks
In the drink section, I tried making the Herbal Siciliano again from my Tokyo cocktail book. It’s not a particularly challenging one although is slightly more involved than a Negroni. I think twice is enough for me. It’s a pleasant enough drink with an interesting mouth feel (courtesy of the olive oil).
Ingredients
2 kumquats
50mL London dry gin
1 tsp/barspoon of olive oil
2 tsp/barspoons lemon juice
1 tsp/barspoon simple syrup
Egg white
Sliced kumquat, fresh ginger, and a cardamom pod for garnish
Method
Muddle the kumquats and gin in a saucepan and heat until the mixture just reaches a simmer. Stir in the olive oil and take pan off the heat. Allow to cool, then add to cocktail shaker with the rest of the ingredients. Dry shake (without ice) then add ice and shake until well mixed. Strain into chilled glasses and top with slices of kumquat, ginger, and a cardamom pod.
