Shelving the Desktop?

Due to an “internal technical issue”, my Alienware desktop order was cancelled. I had planned on re-ordering it but was reliably informed by my Intel-insider that the 15th generation of Intel CPUs was due to launch within the next month so it might be worth holding off. So that’s exactly what I did.

I have been out of the loop for CPUs since building the last desktop, but Intel have had massive issues with the 13th and 14th generation chips. Instability in operating voltages was causing some (read: a lot) of the chips to burn themselves out, and the fix appeared to be to limit their performance. Not exactly a great look if you’re fighting with AMD for the top spot. This level of issue has shaken the community’s faith in Intel, particularly when it took so long to get a fix. The combination of order cancellation and chip issues have been enough to temper my enthusiasm for a new system. Let’s see what October 26th brings.

For now, it’s back to my 2020 system for some Premiere Pro action.

The Plot Thickens…

I have the slightly-more-than-rough draft of the Barrel Aged ready for the music. There is some polishing still to come, and I’ll probably play around with the colouring, but the edit timings are done. Or they will be, until the music comes. There is always tweaking involved to bring the final cut together. The film takes form fairly quickly, but I tend to spend a long time making small adjustments for marginal gains. At some point you have to stop and put it out into the world, and the current aim is to have it finished up by the weekend before Halloween. Speaking of barrel aged.

Porto of Entry?

English weather getting you down? Why not just pop off to Porto. That’s what I’m doing this weekend, although it does come with some work attached. I am looking forward to having a francesinha sandwich, and trying Porto’s answer to hot dogs, cachorrinhos. My Portuguese is non-existent, but I shall endeavour to eat and drink my way through to a shared cultural understanding.
