YouTube Debut with Rambo III

Christmas has come and gone for another year. It always goes by in a flash of food, drink, and family. It’s my favourite time of the year, though not a time without stress. I love all of the preparation in the days leading up to the main event. The menu planning, shopping, sauce production, brine concoction. Everything that goes into the biggest and most spectacular meal of the year. I haven’t been active on here for a number of reasons, but that doesn’t mean I’ve been hibernating. Inspired by the likes of JonTron and the Angry Video Game Nerd, I’m dipping my toes in the world of producing video game related YouTube content. There are countless others doing the same thing, but it’s the natural progression from my written word work considering the volume of video content I’ve produced in the past.

The first game I’ve chosen to subject to my comedy stylings is Rambo III, which I’ve written about before and even threatened a full review of in an Ordinary Retro Gamer segment. It’s a game close to my heart for nostalgic reasons, and one with plenty of quirks and interesting points. I’m experimenting with a mix of gameplay footage, live action segments, and voice over. Trying this out has given me a renewed appreciation for the work that YouTube producers put into making high quality content. This is the first of my videos, and hence it will be rough with a lot of areas for improvement, and I am actively seeking feedback. Please let me know what you think worked or didn’t work, and how it could be improved. Hopefully you will get a laugh out of it at the very least. There’s a pretty solid Christopher Walken impression thrown into the mix, thanks to my brother Alan. Watch it, and leave me a comment or suggestion. I hope to make more videos in future, though given the amount of time I had to put into this one, I may not have time to make another one for a few months.

On another exciting note, you may have noticed I’ve moved. I finally made the jump to my own domain name,! It has been a long time coming, and though I’m usually resistant to change, I thought I should start giving Ordinary Decent Gamer an identity distinct from WordPress. It comes after the launch of my Facebook page, and YouTube channel. These are exciting times for the blog. Now all I have to do is post regularly…
