Metal Shed Solid

Shed, what’s happening? Shed? Shed?! Sheeeeddddd!!!

The base is complete! It was in the last issue, and it remains complete. Things have finally moved on with the rest of the build. I started laying out the base panels for a dry run to make sure they were well positioned.

On reflection I would have extended the base by another slab to allow more room for the door opening. The slabs are largely level(ish), although there is a drop towards the doors which is now proving somewhat of an additional challenge.

Once I’d moved all the parts into the garden and ordered them by when they’d be required, it was time to get stuck in. For a rather impressive structure it only needed a few tools for assembly. Primarily a screwdriver and an impact driver. Don’t try and do the whole thing with a manual screwdriver, it would take rather a long time. There are an insane number of screws. The other bonus is that there are only three kinds of screws which further simplifies matters. You know what else simplifies installation? Two people. I managed the base and walls myself but there was no way I could fit the roof without my wife.

Most of the assembly was straightforward although the front section alignment proved a little challenging, and installation of the roof braces. I was out quite late on the first evening of installation and made use of my trusty worklight.

There was a lot of silicone involved. Four tubes worth, but hopefully it will assist with the waterproofing. Once the structure was finished, we were able to put down the OSB flooring and fit the lights. I’ve got a couple of magnetic rechargeable lights for the interior and I’m considering running electricity out to the shed for a more permanent solution.

There are still shelves and a tool rack to fit, then it’ll be time to get some sort of workbench. So far, so good. The shed is really solid and I’ve started organising my tools. We can finally start to reclaim the space lost to storing shed contents.

The interior so far.

Resident Evil 6

RE5 is done. It was a bit of a slog at the end as the final battle with Wesker goes on and on, but it’s over. I tentatively turned on Resident Evil 6 after hearing very little positive coverage at the time. And it’s…weird? It’s not bad, but it’s very different. A lot more action-y and endless quick time events, but there’s something about being in an environment more reminiscent of the earlier games and fighting traditional zombies that is kind of great. Aspects like different classes of zombie resemble Left for Dead, and the ability to dive out of the way of danger is a welcome addition. We’re one chapter in and the story is light so far, but intriguing. I will write more once we’re deeper into the plot.
